Rezume extracts all text from your PDF resume, then analyzes it across four dimensions: keyword match against a 200+ tech keyword database, ATS formatting compliance, section coverage (contact, summary, experience, skills, education, projects), and impact language quality. When you paste a job description, it also does a direct overlap analysis against that specific role's requirements.
The score starts at 50 and adjusts based on several factors: +0.5 points for each keyword found (max +25), −3 points for each critical missing keyword, and +5–10 points for good section structure. The final result is clamped between 0 and 100. Scores above 80 are generally considered strong for most ATS systems.
Your resume is processed server-side to extract text for analysis. The Chrome extension caches your resume in your browser's local storage only — it never leaves your device except for the API call to generate your score. We do not sell or share your data with any third parties.
Rezume currently supports PDF files. This is intentional — PDF is the industry-standard format for resume submission, and it's what ATS systems receive most often. If your resume is in Word or another format, export it as a PDF first before uploading.
Yes. Rezume detects your career stage automatically — entry-level/fresher, mid-level, senior, principal/staff, or engineering manager — and adjusts its keyword recommendations and scoring accordingly. A fresher's resume is not penalized for lacking system design experience; a senior's resume is expected to demonstrate architectural thinking.
Rezume is purpose-built for software engineering roles. Its 200+ keyword database and scoring logic are tuned for tech roles. While the basic text extraction and structure analysis will work for any resume, the keyword recommendations and level detection are optimized for engineers. We plan to expand to other tech-adjacent roles (product management, data science, DevOps) in future updates.
